Annie Ryersons process exposes meaning within her work. The complex surfaces are activated by the tension between what is revealed and simultaneously what is covered over. Ryersons deeply layered paintings are excavated through sanding and digging back into the surface - the physicality of the work oscillates between crude and delicate moments within each painting. The center of her work explores the notion of wonder - and navigates the viewer through other worldly landscapes of a forever-young imagination.
Ryerson earned her MFA in Painting and Material Studies from Syracuse University in 2012. Her work has been shown in various locations throughout the United States and abroad in both France and Ireland.
